It is really terrible what populism can do to some minds; once their idol says something, and that is parsed down to them as "once we take this from *them*, *you* gain this advantage", they are willing to go to the worst extremes to obtain that "advantage", one that never materializes, because those who have everything never part with anything, and because said advantage was never anything but a mirage, a promise, a carrot to direct the brute force (and hatred) of the mob towards the idol's "enemies". And as such, once that first "enemy" is destroyed, other enemies are imagined/created/targeted, and around and around we go.
