When Characters End

I've been writing a book that I've really enjoyed writing. It has a lot of smexing, family angst, Hollywood, a little more smexing and well, this is the most fun I've had writing since ages.

So I'm at 50,000+ words and the hero is taking the heroine to the gym so they can have a workout. No smexing, actual grunt and sweat work out. he reason I'm doing this is because I saw an awesome video of my imaginary boyfriend working out and he was flipping a 500 pound semi tire back and forth. And I was impressed.

So I want my heroine to be impressed too. After all, a 500 pound semi tire is not generally something that one usually sees a man flipping around.

But then I was wondering if I was adding it too late to the story. After all, I've had all the angst and now I'm going to start working on the resolutions and developing more character musculature mght be a bit much.

I'll be adding that today. I'm betting that Carolyn tells me to take it out. We'll see.

Does anyone think that characterizations are only a beginning of the book thing? I'm finding my characters are still developing and the book is more than half done.

  1. For me, characterizations can continue throughout. After all, we don't get to a point in our lives where we think, 'I'm as good as I can be, I'll just sit back now and chillax'.

Isn't that what makes life fun anyway? Knowing that no matter how old you are or what your station in life, there is always something out there that can help you to continue to grow as a person.

I guess what I am bumblingly trying to say is go for it - add the gym stuff :D

  2. I completely agree with Lea. Characters are people and people are constantly changing and evolving... although for continuity I would maybe add something earlier in the story to indicate this scene is a possibility later on.
