Carolyn's September Pre-orders

But first, a late August pick:

1.  Made for Sin
     Author: Stacie Kane
     Publisher: Random House
     Release: August 30
     Price:  $3.99

A lot of bad hands get dealt in Vegas, but E. L. Speare may be holding one of the worst: He’s cursed with the need to commit sins, and if he misses his daily quota, there’s hell to pay—literally. Fortunately, his hometown affords him plenty of chances to behave badly.

But Speare’s newest case really has him going out on a limb. The right-hand man of a notorious crime boss has been found dead in a Dumpster—minus his right hand, not to mention the rest of his arm. What catches Speare’s attention, however, is that the missing appendage was severed clean by a demon-sword, a frighteningly powerful tool of the underworld.

Speare’s out of his element, so he turns to a specialist: Ardeth Coyle, master thief, dealer in occult artifacts, and bona fide temptress. Ardeth’s hotter than a Las Vegas sidewalk on the Fourth of July, but she’s one sin Speare has to resist.

The dismembered corpses are piling up, unimaginable evil lurks in the shadows, and if this odd couple hopes to beat the odds, Speare needs to keep his hands off Ardeth, and his head in the game.
I've been meaning to try Stacia Kane for awhile and since this is the first book of a new series at a good price - why not?

And now for the September books:

1.  Apprentice in Death
     Author: J. D. Robb
     Publisher: Penguin Group
     Release: September 6
     Price: $14.99

Nature versus nurture...
The shots came quickly, silently, and with deadly accuracy. Within seconds, three people were dead at Central Park’s ice-skating rink. The victims: a talented young skater, a doctor, and a teacher. As random as random can be.

Eve Dallas has seen a lot of killers during her time with the NYPSD but never one like this. A review of the security videos reveals that the victims were killed with a tactical laser rifle fired by a sniper, who could have been miles away when the trigger was pulled. And though the list of locations where the shooter could have set up seems endless, the number of people with that particular skill set is finite: police, military, professional killer.

Eve’s husband, Roarke, has unlimited resources—and genius—at his disposal. And when his computer program leads Eve to the location of the sniper, she learns a shocking fact: There were two—one older, one younger. Someone is being trained by an expert in the science of killing, and they have an agenda. Central Park was just a warm-up. And as another sniper attack shakes the city to its core, Eve realizes that though we’re all shaped by the people around us, there are those who are just born evil...
This one may get cancelled. I'm not crazy in love with the series like I used to be. I can probably control myself enough to wait for MMP prices.  ;-p

2.  Rookie Move
     Author: Sarina Bowen
     Publisher: Penguin Group
     Release: September 6
     Price: $7.99

The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series.
In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...
Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast....
Been waiting for Leo's story. He's DJ Trevi's brother. DJ's story was The Fifteenth Minute, book 5 of the Ivy Years series. Good story, as all Bowen's stories are.

3.  Guardian's Mate
     Author: Jennifer Ashley
     Publisher: Penguin Group
     Release: September 6
     Price: $7.99

She wasn’t ready to lead...

Chosen as the Guardian of her Montana Shiftertown, wolf Shifter Rae Lyall is facing opposition—for no woman has ever been selected for this powerful position. Still adjusting to the new authority thrust upon her, Rae travels to train with Zander Moncrieff, a Shifter healer, tasked with teaching her about her new role and its responsibilities.

He wasn’t ready to love...
A polar bear Shifter, Zander wears no Collar and follows no rules but his own. Rae finds him arrogant and demanding, yet compelling and intriguing. Zander has no wish to mate but the sassy Guardian is drawing him out of his shell, stirring feelings long suppressed. And when a new threat looms over Rae’s home, she and Zander must race to the rescue, forced closer to danger...and to each other.

This series is 9-10 books now. Each can be read as a stand alone, but it's fun to read them in order and follow the different characters through the adventures of their peers.

4.  Magic Binds
     Author: Ilona Andrews
     Publisher: Penguin Group
     Release: September 20
     Price: $12.99

Mercenary Kate Daniels knows all too well that magic in post-Shift Atlanta is a dangerous business. But nothing she’s faced could have prepared her for this...

Kate and the former Beast Lord Curran Lennart are finally making their relationship official. But there are some steep obstacles standing in the way of their walk to the altar...

Kate’s father, Roland, has kidnapped the demigod Saiman and is slowly bleeding him dry in his never-ending bid for power. A Witch Oracle has predicted that if Kate marries the man she loves, Atlanta will burn and she will lose him forever. And the only person Kate can ask for help is long dead.

The odds are impossible. The future is grim.  But Kate Daniels has never been one to play by the rules...
This is it: Roland vs Kate (and Curran). Or maybe not - I think there's one more book contracted for. Either way - CAN'T WAIT TO READ IT!! This is one author I do not religate to MMP. Must have NOW!

5.  The Bookshop on the Corner
     Author: Jenny Colgan
     Publisher: HarperCollins
     Release: September 20
     Price: $9.99

Nina Redmond is a literary matchmaker. Pairing a reader with that perfect book is her passion… and also her job. Or at least it was. Until yesterday, she was a librarian in the hectic city. But now the job she loved is no more.
Determined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile—a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling.
From helping her grumpy landlord deliver a lamb, to sharing picnics with a charming train conductor who serenades her with poetry, Nina discovers there’s plenty of adventure, magic, and soul in a place that’s beginning to feel like home… a place where she just might be able to write her own happy ending.
Don't know why this book is so high. It might be because it's a British author? Or because it's one of the Big 5 publishers? Or a combination of both? Doesn't matter. This author is worth it. She writes of simple, everyday things bringing happiness and love to ordinary people and she's just such a pleasure to read - ask Lori!

6.  The Goal
     Author: Elle Kennedy
     Publisher: self published
     Release: September 26
     Price: $4.99

She’s good at achieving her goals…

College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn’t include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she’s willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.

But the game just got a whole lot more complicated

Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice, he’s fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of twenty-two, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn’t hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, Sabrina’s heart is locked up tight, and. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he’ll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist.

You see the difference in price between this book and Rookie Move? I guarantee you it isn't the authors. Rookie Move is traditionally published. Sarina Bowen's  Ivy Year books are not and sell for ridiculously low prices. I'm not sure how happy I'm going to be with "the fiery brunette ... too stubborn to accept his help". I get outdone with heroines like that, I mean there are limits and pride goeth before a fall and after trudging through all the stubborn I'm usually ready to see them fall hard. But gotta trust Sarine Bowen and perhaps I'll do a non-review to bring y'all up to date.

So. That's it for September. I truly am trying to cut back. It's all the internet's fault; I wouldn't know about most of these authors if it wasn't for book blogs. Not my fault. Nope. Nuh uh.

  1. Oh, the Jenny Colgan book looks so good.

So very good. Like really good.

  2. The JD RObb and Jenny Colgan ones sound good to me. Although, if the JD is part of a series... Maybe you don't have to read the others but just knowing there are others (linked or not) will drive me nuts lol.

You know, I think I have a JD Robb book on my shelves, although not read it. I need to investigate that.

Some of the others sound ok but not really my thing. Then again, I am supposed to be learning new things, right? LOL

I agree Carolyn - it's the interweb's fault for our buying urges, not ours. I'll back you up on that :D
