Meeting A Trump Supporter

Because only human beings are capable of such non-logic...

I met a woman today who told me she had been watching Trump on television this morning. She's a white, slightly older woman who was accompanied by an older, Asian man. "So what did you think?" I asked her, planning to share a few giggles of the absurdity of a Trump presidency.

'He's wonderful," she gushed. "He's going to make a great president."

I swallowed the gathering bile. I turned to the gentleman.

"Do you think Donald Trump is sexist?" I asked.

"Do you believe he's racist?" I asked.

"Then why do you like him?"

"Because he's going to make America great again."

My mind reeled.

"So you'll be voting for Donald for president. That's fascinating."

"Oh no," she demurred. "I'm not a registered voter."

"But.... if you think he'll make a great president, shouldn't you get out and vote for him?"

"No, I don't have time to get registered. I have too much to do. And he doesn't need my vote anyway."

Dear God, hear my prayer: let all Donald Trump supporters be like this woman. Unregistered and remaining so, happy in her busy life with no time to cast a pesky vote.

I'm going to bed and don't plan to reemerge till 2017.

  1. I am so freaking scared for this country--because there are many, many people who claim to be afraid of this...narcissist, who are also 'too busy' to register to vote.

"He doesn't stand a chance," they claim--but it's those who freaking show up who make history, and I'm not betting on anything until the last vote is counted.

By the way: I'm not uncritical of Clinton, but given the choices on both parties, I'm praying people get over themselves, and think a bit about the long term consequences of a buffoon with sprayed on tan, or a business person with zero experience in politics.

  2. I'm scared too and I don't even live there...

We don't have the choice to vote (unless it's local council/shire) - it's either vote or get a fine (some people still cop the fine and then bitch about the choice that wins lol). I dread to think what would happen if our fate was left to the few who actually want to vote.

I don't mind voting although teh choices are never what you would pick but you have to take one. Maybe that's why we end up with PM's who last a minute and then get ousted in a coup lol.

I haven't paid all that much attention to who y'all have to pick from up there but I do know Trump wouldn't be a good option. I've heard soundbites of his comments and it almost gives me nightmares.

I did have to laugh though - since he won the 'super MOnday thing' Google noticed a spike in excess of 1000% by Americans looking for the quickest and easiest way to become Canadian lol.

If he does win, y'all are welcome to come and live down here. We have critters that will kill ya soon as look at ya but it has to be better than staying there..?
