I really enjoyed this article :D After I stopped laughing at the term Alphahole (I know, I'm weird...) I could actually understand what Ilona was on about. Most of these articles I get lost two paragraphs in and give up.I chuckled at the Twilight, loved the pic of Val Kilmer from Willow, remember quite vividly the Outlander bit and now have a desire to perhaps read Lord of Scoundrels - she mentioned it so many times it must be good :DThanks Carolyn, I really enjoyed this :D
Lea, Carolyn, I'm not sure if you guys are aware that this was written (or at least, it seems to me that it was written) in direct response to a fairly stupid (very uninformed to the very least), think piece published last week at the Book Smugglers. That piece was supposedly an analysis on the alpha male trope, but in reality was just another 'lets bash romance and feel superior' spew.I was a bit saddened that the comments are closed, though I understand why, completely. I shared the link myself, here, with a mostly non-romance-reading crowd. We'll see how that turns out.
No, I wasn't aware of that, AL, as that site is not one I check out. But I will find it. :-)Reread your LoS review. That is one damn good review! and now guess what I'm reading?? I always want to hug and cuddle Dain because you are right, he's emotionally immature and its a real pleasure to watch him grow up.
Thanks AL - Just read yours and the link to Jessica's - LOL, I love it :DMaybe the people who write those anti-romance spiels write them because they can't write anything else? Dunno. It would be like me writing MC stuff although I've never read any (does watching Sons of Anarchy count?). There are heaps of genres out there I don't think I would like but I don't dedicate pages of nonsense to that fact. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong - the books that have been sent to me via the OLD FARTS are case in point (except for Steampunk - sorry Carolyn lol) and only went to show to me that there is more to reading that sticking with the usual. Now, excuse me while I go and think about a good name for a MC club for a piece I'm writing - as a story, not a review of the genre lol. See, I am growing :D
I forgave you for not liking The Iron Duke long ago, Lea. But now, if you don't like LoS ... I shall have to re-examine my position. ;-)
Ruh roh... talk about pressure!! LOL Hopefully I can do myself proud and keep y'all on as a friend. Or if not, find a damn good place to hide...LOL
Lea, I tried to respond to your earlier comment, but apparently logged off instead. You really, really gotta read Lord of Scoundrels. I resisted for many years, and now I'm a total fan. (review)And yeah, the whole point of my piece is that: if you don't like something, and furthermore, know next to nothing about that something, try not to lecture and talk down to people who are conversant with it.
Thanks AL :D Will read your review over morning cuppa lol. Looks like I'm probably going to need to buy another book. Oh, how sad for me... lmao. And if the yahoos didn't lecture and talk down to people, they'd have nothing to do lol. Isn't there a saying about those who can do, those who can't bitch and moan? :D
PS - just ordered a copy via Book Depository...You ladies are bad for my budget with y'all recommendations lol (Not really complaining, I do love me some books :D )
OMG Lea, Lord of Scoundrels is like the penultimate romance. One of the few books where both the hero and heroine are perfect and their story is just delightful.I think I might have to reread it now. After I check out AL's review of it, that is.
What can I say... always a step behind what's hot. Like getting on the bandwagon for something when it's been cool for ages lol.By the by... this book isn't a part of a series or anything is it? I don't want to read it if it's book 5 without having read the others first. I'm like that ya know...:D
No worries, Lea, while Lord of Scoundrels is loosely tied with a couple other books, it can be read on its own--which is how I read it.And it's so delightful! Seriously, LoS is quintessential romance.
Thanks AL for the heads up. I guess if I enjoy it enough, I can go and get the others too. Fingers crossed y'all, it should be here early next week... :D
