My dear friend Clark wants to send his mother a book. She has requested Victrian romance with little/limited sex.
Clark knows al about the fantasy genre but nothing of romance and I know nothing of Victorian romances that are free of B/d, menage or anal play with serving wenches.
Any ideas?
I can think of two series right off the bat, but they're both mysteries.
ReplyDeleteOne is the Lady Jane Grey series, first book Silent in the Grave by Deanna Rayborn. The romance arc encompasses the first three books though, which I didn't mind a bit. No overt sechs.
The second is the Amelia Peabody series, first book Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters.
These are the only Victorians I can think of off the top of my head. More usual are Regencies and in that case I'd go for Georgette Heyer.
It would help to know what she's already read. :-)
It's only a novella, but it's filled with angsty goodness (which may be a recommendation or not): Mary Jo Putney's take on Beauty & the Beast: The Beast of Belleterre. (Also, has a Christmas subtext, if that helps.)
ReplyDeleteIt's in a bunch of her anthologies, including one called Victorian Christmas.
Thanks Ladies. I will look some of these up on Amazon and see what I can find out!
